Frequently Asked Questions

Can using VivaCup prevent me from getting pregnant unexpectedly?

Can’t. VivaCup is not a birth control tool and should not be used for this purpose. VivaCup is regulated by the US Food and Drug Administration, the Australian Drug Administration, the Mexican Federal Health Risk Protection Commission and Health Canada, and is only used for menstrual care protection and should only be used during menstruation.

What is toxic shock syndrome?

Toxic shock syndrome (TSS) is a rare but serious disease caused by a toxin-producing strain of S. aureus. In rare cases, the strain may have infections related to the use of built-in menstrual care products, or infections caused by surgery or burns. When exposed to the environment in which the strain is present, TSS may affect a small number of people (including men, women, and children). Since we are not medical staff, we recommend that you consult your doctor about any gynecological/medical issues or situations. Our instruction manual and website contain detailed instructions for use and maintenance. It is important to use VivaCup according to these instructions. Before putting in and taking out, please wash your hands carefully and thoroughly. Use warm water and VivaWash to clean VivaCup at least 2-3 times a day (every 10-12 hours). It is also recommended that you sterilize VivaCup with boiling water between two menstrual cycles. If you have been diagnosed with TSS before, then we recommend that you consult your doctor before using VivaCup. If you experience any of the following symptoms, stop using VivaCup and contact your healthcare provider: sudden vomiting, diarrhea, high fever, headache, sunburn-like rash, muscle pain, confusion, or seizures.

How long can I use VivaCup?

VivaCup can be used continuously for up to 12 hours, depending on your menstrual flow. Within 24 hours, the cup should be emptied, washed and rinsed at least 2 or 3 times.

How much menstrual blood can VivaCup hold?

VivaCup model 1 can hold 1 ounce of menstrual flow (30 ml), while model 2 can hold slightly higher than 1 ounce (32 ml) of menstrual flow. VivaCup model 0 can accommodate more than half an ounce (20 milliliters) of menstrual flow. In contrast, on average, regular-sized tampons can absorb about 5 milliliters of menstrual flow. The measurement line on VivaCup can help you record your menstrual flow and report detailed information to your healthcare provider when needed.

I noticed an odor when using tampon or sanitary napkins. Is there any smell when using VivaCup?

Generally, odor begins to develop when menstrual blood is exposed to the air, which means that you should not experience the odor when using a tampon or sanitary napkin. However, if you use VivaCup for more than the recommended 12 hours without removing and cleaning it, it may produce an odor.

When I do any activities during menstruation, can I still use VivaCup?

You can use VivaCup during any activities during menstruation, except for vaginal intercourse. These activities include swimming, scuba diving (snorkeling), camping, sleeping, running, yoga, weightlifting and gymnastics, etc.-anything you can think of! If you use a cup of suitable size and place VivaCup correctly, it should not shift or leak regardless of the intensity of the activity. Please note: VivaCup should only be used during menstruation, not at any other time.

How do I prepare for the first time using VivaCup?

Before using VivaCup for the first time, please use an uncovered stainless steel pot specially used for cooking VivaCup, immerse VivaCup in boiling water and cook for 5-10 minutes. This is the first step that must be taken. It is not necessary to cook VivaCup between menstrual cycles because regular cleaning is enough to keep the cup clean. For more information about proper care and cleaning, please visit our care and cleaning page.

How do I clean my VivaCup in public restrooms?

In public toilets, some consumers feel uncomfortable and cannot clean VivaCup in the sink as usual. If this is the case, wash your hands thoroughly before entering the toilet, pour the liquid in VivaCup into the toilet, and then use a dry or wet paper towel to clean VivaCup. When it is convenient next time, follow the instructions in the instruction manual for cleaning. Always clean VivaCup with safe drinking water, including when traveling or camping.
